PET-P Piston Guide

Ertalyte TX (PET-P) Piston Guides

Piston guides are used in pumps, dosing systems, filling equipment and other reciprocating machinery to maintain accurate alignment of a moving piston or piston rod while controlling lateral movement and preventing direct contact between moving components and the surrounding housing. In applications such as high-speed filling and dosing equipment, the guide is exposed to continuous sliding movement, friction, and wear, making material selection critical to maintaining dimensional accuracy and reliable operation. Ertalyte TX (PET-P) is particularly suited to these applications as an internally lubricated bearing-grade material designed for high-load and high-speed bearing applications.

The key advantage of Ertalyte TX over standard Ertalyte PET-P is its internally dispersed solid lubricant. While standard PET-P already provides excellent wear resistance, low friction, high strength, and dimensional stability, TX further reduces friction and wear while providing improved pressure-velocity capability. Ertalyte TX has a typical coefficient of friction of 0.15 compared with 0.20 for standard Ertalyte PET-P, making TX particularly effective for continuously moving guide components. Its low moisture absorption and strong dimensional stability also help maintain tight clearances in wet or humid environments, reducing the risk of components tightening around the shaft.

Dotmar Engineering Plastics can manufacture precision piston guides and bearing components to suit individual equipment requirements, with the ability to work from customer drawings, samples or existing components. Dotmar's engineering plastics expertise includes precision machining, material selection, 3D scanning and reverse engineering, allowing existing or obsolete components to be digitally captured, assessed and reproduced where drawings are unavailable. This approach can provide a practical replacement for imported or worn OEM components, while allowing the material and design to be reviewed for the specific operating conditions of the application. Dotmar's existing application work demonstrates how reverse engineering, material selection and precision machining can be combined to deliver locally manufactured PET-P components with improved performance and reduced maintenance requirements
