Polystone
300 is being used for new troughs and feeders for Australia’s beef and dairy herds,
as well as tanks, bins, paddock feeders and feed mixers.
Polystone 300 sheet comes in thicknesses from 1.5 to 160mm
in 2000 x 1000mm and 3000 x 1500mm sheets. It needs no special
treatment or coating. It looks good, resists impact and UV
damage and, being physiologically inert, offers no harm in
the food chain – an important consideration in the
dairy and export beef industries. |

The Department of Agriculture’s Friesian cattle research
station at Kiari has subjected one of RKS’s (RKS is a
manufacturer of this type of equipment) molasses tank/troughs
to an extended trial and it has performed faultlessly.
The standard RKS trough/feeders hold 2,400 litres of molasses
or molasses/grain mix in the tank and up to 1,400 in the trough.
Made from 10mm Polystone 300, the tank/trough can easily withstand
the weight of cattle standing in the trough or slipping and
falling against it. The trough has a tubular edge to minimise
potential injuries.

Polystone 300 has been fabricated to make a 15,000 litre
truck-mounted water tank for Coolgarra Mining Limited for
use at their Mount Garner zinc mine. The tank can be used
for delivering drinking water or for spraying water on the
dusty roads at the mine site.
When empty, the tank weighs just 1,500 kilograms and can
be lifted on and off the truck by a light crane. Because
the Polystone 300 is inert, these tanks would be ideal
for mobile water storage at remote sites or during emergencies
when clean water supplies are needed.
Polystone 300 is also used for water or feed troughs designed
to hang neatly out of harm’s way above ground level
on yard rails. RKS makes these rugged, rounded troughs
about 500mm wide and 400mm deep and being 1.5 metres long
are a handy size in most applications (sizes can be varied
for individual orders).
Plastics are more and more replacing metal materials in
product fabrication because they are superior overall in
terms of cost, hygiene, ease of manufacture and purpose-performance
in most applications.
