Smooth Operating NYLATRON has Gears Purring.

Engineering thermoplastics are proving to have a multitude of uses in modern manufacturing. There are few areas where highly engineered polymers cannot be used. Engineers recognise there are many more areas of application for thermoplastics and other polymers than areas of incompatibility.

November News Image 1One of the versatile families of thermoplastics from Dotmar EPP is the Nylatron range, the self-lubricating properties of which makes it very suitable for applications where there are large open gears in operation, especially cast iron or steel gears that are open to the atmosphere

Because Nylatron gears don't have exposed lubricant - lubricant is built into the material from which the gears are made - they don't attract dust, dirt and grime onto any of the moving parts. This unwelcome grime can act as a grinding paste, damaging gears and greatly decreasing their longevity. The gears engineered November News Image 2from Nylatron MC901 also contain a built-in heat stabiliser. This permits longer usage in temperatures of up to 120 °C, as well as low noise output, superior fatigue resistance and dimensional stability.

The use of Nylatron MC901 in this type of application means the life span of gears may be up to five times longer than the metal compound it has replaced.

Added to this, the better shock resistance of Nylatron MC901 compared with metallic gears translates into a vastly improved tolerance to misalignment, as well as higher resilience. Benefits include much lower levels of vibration transmitted to the bearings.

November News Image 3 Other applications of Nylatron include slipper pads, wear plates, sheet metal forming rolls, dog couplings, trunnion rollers and bearings, thrust brushes, pulleys, mast slide shoes, track roller and link pin brushes, wear and impact liners, pedestal bearing liners and camshaft bearings.

Dotmar EPP's extensive range of the versatile Nylatron series - complemented by high performance nylons in the Ertalon series - are part of Australasia's most comprehensive range of machined and semifinished engineering thermoplastics and components.

NYLATRON AND ERTALON range

Cast and extruded standard grades
• 6PLA, 6SA, 66SA - cream in colour.

Cast Nylon Special Grades
• Nylatron MC901 (blue) - modified
• Nylatron GSM (grey) - solid lubricant
• Ertalon LFX (green) - oil filled
• Ertalon 6XAU (black) - heat stabilised

Key Success factors for nylons such as sliding properties, wear resistance, vibration dampening, impact strength, light weight and good machinability have all led to designing and manufacturing highly loaded components in Cast Nylons for both OEM and maintenance work.

Typical Conditions for Successful Nylon Applications:
• Medium Speed
• Medium Temperature
• High Abrasion
• High Impact
• High Load

A rugged, dusty dirty environment is difficult for bronze where lubrication turns to grinding paste!

In this environment Self-Lubricating or Standard Nylon "is at home" in bushes, bearings, gears or protective slide / wear-plate applications.
